Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Discuss Security and Trade

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi emphasized the "inseparable" bonds between Iran and Pakistan during a joint press conference with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. Both leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing relations across economic, political, commercial, and cultural sectors. They share mutual stances on combating terrorism, insecurity, organized crime, and illicit drugs.

Raeisi highlighted the need to elevate trade and economic relations, targeting an increase in exchanges to $10 billion. He also offered Iran's expertise in science, technology, transportation, and transit to Islamabad.

During the press conference, Raeisi praised Pakistan's support for Islamic values and the Palestinian cause. He criticized international organizations for their inefficiency in upholding human rights, particularly the United Nations Security Council.

Sharif echoed Raeisi's sentiments, expressing concern over Israel's actions in Gaza and advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Eight cooperation documents were signed between Iran and Pakistan, covering trade, science, technology, agriculture, health, culture, legal, and judicial affairs. Both countries emphasized the importance of sustainable security, combating terrorism, and supporting human rights without discrimination.

The visit aims to bolster security and trade ties between Iran and Pakistan, with Raeisi scheduled to conclude his visit on Wednesday and head to Sri Lanka.
