The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kan'ani, strongly criticized the recent decision of the European Union Council regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Kan'ani denounced the EU Council's move as a clear violation of the JCPOA and UN Resolution 2231.

The EU Council had issued a statement titled "implementing Regulation (EU) No 267/2012 concerning restrictive measures against Iran," prompting Iran's swift reaction. Kan'ani expressed deep concern, characterizing the decision as an act carried out with ill intentions and a direct breach of the obligations outlined in the JCPOA and Resolution 2231 by the European Union and its three member countries.

Labeling the EU Council's action as unilateral, illegal, and politically unjustifiable, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized the contradiction between such a move and the bloc's professed commitment to the complete implementation of the JCPOA. The decision stands in stark contrast to the claims and approaches expressed by the European Union and its member states regarding their dedication to upholding the terms of the nuclear agreement.

UN Security Council Resolution 2231, adopted in 2015, officially endorsed the JCPOA, setting the stage for diplomatic efforts to address Iran's nuclear program and fostering international cooperation on the matter.
