Iraqi Parliament Calls for Arab Defense Treaty Activation Against Israeli Aggression on Gaza

In response to the relentless attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip by the Israeli regime, the Iraqi parliament has taken a decisive stance, urging the activation of the Arab Defense Treaty. During a session focused on Israeli aggression against Gaza, lawmakers in Iraq condemned the "brutal practices and crimes committed by the Zionist occupation forces against the Palestinian people."

In a statement released after the Saturday session, Iraqi legislators not only expressed their condemnation but also called for urgent actions on multiple fronts. They renewed the call for the Arab League to convene an emergency session to denounce Israeli aggression and to facilitate the opening of corridors for delivering much-needed humanitarian, medical, and food aid to Gaza.

Additionally, Iraqi lawmakers called for the activation of the Arab League's Charter, asserting that an attack on any member is an attack on all Arab countries. They emphasized the need to activate the Joint Arab Defense Treaty and appealed to the international community to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. The legislators urged the United Nations to intervene, preventing the further killing and displacement of Palestinians.

The move by the Iraqi parliament reflects growing concern and a call for collective action against the Israeli onslaught. The attacks on Gaza, initiated by Israel on October 7 in response to the Hamas resistance group's Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, have led to significant casualties. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the toll stands at 2,329 Palestinians killed, with the majority being women and children, and 9,714 others injured due to Israeli strikes.
