Drone Attack Targets US Military Base in Kurdistan while Growing Anti-US Sentiments

In a recent development, a military base situated in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, housing US military forces and trainers, faced a drone attack. This incident occurred against the backdrop of escalating anti-US sentiments, fueled by Washington's unwavering support for the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of anti-terror fighters, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on its Telegram channel. According to the statement, the explosive-laden drone successfully struck the designated target at Erbil International Airport, resulting in its destruction. Immediate details on casualties or the extent of damage are not yet available.

Sabereen News, a Telegram channel linked to Iraqi anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units, also reported the incident.

This attack coincides with heightened anti-US feelings over Washington's strong backing of Israel's military actions in the besieged Gaza Strip, where the conflict has claimed the lives of at least 15,207 individuals, predominantly women and children, and left over 40,650 people wounded. More than 7,500 individuals are reported missing or presumed dead, trapped under the rubble awaiting rescue.

The Israeli offensive was triggered by Gaza's resistance groups conducting Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, their most significant operation against the occupying entity in years. Since the war's onset on October 7, the United States has supported Israel's aggressive attacks on Palestinian territory, justifying them as "self-defense."

On November 2, the US House of Representatives passed a $14.3-billion military assistance package for Israel, but the legislation is still pending Senate approval. Additionally, Washington has vetoed United Nations Security Council resolutions urging the occupying regime to cease its aggression.
