Drone Strike Targets US Military Base in Syria, Anti-US Sentiments in the Region Rising

Multiple US service members have reportedly suffered injuries in a recent drone strike on a military base located in Syria's eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr. The strike, which occurred at the al-Omar oil field on Thursday night, resulted in casualties and inflicted damage on the facility, according to sources speaking on condition of anonymity to Russia's Sputnik news agency.

Witnesses observed US military helicopters taking off from the targeted base, heading northwards to transport the injured to other bases and field hospitals under US military control. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters, claimed responsibility for the drone strike, citing it as a retaliatory measure against the US for its support of Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

This incident adds to a series of attacks on US occupation forces, with a combat drone recently striking a US military base in the al-Rukban region of southeastern Syria. The rising tensions coincide with the passage of a $14.3-billion military assistance package for Israel by the US House of Representatives on November 2, although the legislation is still pending Senate approval.

As Washington continues to back Israel's actions in Gaza, casting vetoes against UN Security Council resolutions condemning the aggression, anti-US sentiments in the region are on the upswing. Israel's ongoing offensive, marked by relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, has resulted in a significant toll, with at least 22,438 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, reported killed and another 57,614 individuals sustaining injuries. The situation underscores the complex geopolitical landscape and the interconnectedness of events in the Middle East.
