Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, delivered a scathing denouncement of the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) inert response to what he termed the Israeli regime's ongoing US-backed genocide in Gaza. Speaking at a meeting of foreign counterparts on the sidelines of the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Amir-Abdollahian labeled the Council's inaction on Gaza as "the diplomatic catastrophe of the century."
Highlighting the dire situation, he stressed that while the current period of suffering for the people of Palestine would eventually pass, the international community's stance on the ongoing genocide would be etched in history.
The conflict, sparked by the Israeli regime's aggression following the al-Aqsa Storm in October 2023, has seen over 30,000 casualties, with women and children comprising around 70% of the deaths. Amir-Abdollahian condemned the deliberate attacks on healthcare facilities, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis by depriving Palestinians of essential medical care.
Moreover, he warned of the dire consequences of a potential ground invasion of Rafah, urging the international community to sever economic ties with the Israeli regime and refrain from arming it.
Asserting the resilience of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that Palestine's future could only be determined through intra-Palestinian dialogue, dismissing alternative imposed solutions as destined for failure.
