Hamas Urges West Bank Palestinians to Defend Al-Aqsa During Ramadan

In a televised address, Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, has called upon Palestinians in the occupied West Bank to stand in solidarity and safeguard Al-Aqsa Mosque during the upcoming Ramadan month. Haniyeh emphasized the interconnectedness between the besieged Gaza Strip and potential Israeli restrictions on Al-Aqsa, urging international adherence to legal frameworks governing holy sites and pledging resistance against any violations.

Haniyeh condemned the escalating Israeli violence in the West Bank, framing it within a broader strategy aimed at displacing Palestinians. With historical precedents of heightened tensions during Ramadan, he anticipated increased hostilities this year, exacerbated by recent conflicts in Gaza.

Regarding ceasefire negotiations, Haniyeh expressed Hamas' willingness to engage in dialogue while maintaining readiness to protect Palestinian interests. Ongoing talks, facilitated by Egypt and Qatar, have reportedly proposed a temporary cessation of hostilities in Gaza, contingent on the release of prisoners and humanitarian aid provisions.

Haniyeh called upon the Axis of Resistance to intensify support for Gaza, urging Arab and Islamic nations to intervene against Israel's blockade and prevent further suffering. Accusing Israel of grave atrocities, he underscored the international community's responsibility, particularly Arab states, to confront Israeli actions.

The enduring conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with thousands killed and displaced, highlighting the urgent need for solidarity and action to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and safeguard Palestinian rights.
