Sanders Condemns Israeli Actions in Gaza, Calls for End to U.S. Funding

Senator Bernie Sanders has strongly criticized Israel's actions in Gaza, denouncing the killing and injuring of civilians, including children, by Israeli forces. Sanders emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Gaza and called for an end to U.S. funding of what he termed the "Netanyahu war machine."

In a statement posted on social media, Sanders expressed outrage at the situation in Gaza, where Israeli soldiers have reportedly shot people attempting to access food aid. He highlighted the dire humanitarian crisis facing Gaza's population and asserted that the U.S. cannot continue supporting Israel's military actions.

Sanders has characterized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters as responsible for what he describes as a genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza. He has called attention to the high civilian death toll, with over 30,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, killed since October.

The international charity Oxfam has also criticized U.S. foreign policy, attributing it to the risk of famine in Gaza. Oxfam expressed opposition to potential U.S. plans for food airdrops in Gaza, arguing that such efforts do not address the underlying causes of extreme hunger, which it attributes in part to U.S. policies.

Scott Paul, a humanitarian policy representative at Oxfam America, emphasized the need for meaningful action to address the crisis in Gaza, including ending weapons sales to Israel and securing a ceasefire. Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour echoed these sentiments, urging the Security Council to intervene and declare "enough is enough."
