Syrian Air Defenses Thwart Israeli Missile Attack Near Damascus

Reports from local media indicate that Syrian air defense units successfully intercepted and downed the majority of missiles launched by the Israeli military near Damascus, the capital of Syria.

Early on Sunday, Israeli military aircraft reportedly conducted an aerial assault from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights, targeting multiple sites in the Damascus countryside. Syrian air defenses managed to neutralize most of the incoming missiles, resulting in no casualties but causing material damage.

Israel has frequently conducted airstrikes on military installations in Syria, particularly those affiliated with the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah. Hezbollah has played a crucial role in supporting the Syrian army against terrorist groups backed by foreign entities.

The Israeli regime seldom acknowledges its military actions in Syrian territory, often seen as a reaction to the Syrian government's successes against terrorism.

These recent strikes occur amidst an escalation of Israeli aggression against Syria and its ongoing conflict in Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians, primarily civilians, have lost their lives. Israel initiated the Gaza conflict on October 7, 2023, following retaliatory actions by the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement against Israeli injustices in the occupied West Bank.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has accused Israel of attempting to divert attention from its failures in Gaza by launching attacks on Syrian territory. Observers warn that such actions could further exacerbate tensions in the region.
