Support for Israel Wanes in US Amid Gaza Brutality

A prominent African American journalist and political analyst, Abayomi Azikiwe, predicts that US President Joe Biden may face electoral consequences due to his backing of Israel's actions in Gaza. In an exclusive interview with the Press TV website, Azikiwe highlighted a recent poll indicating a shift in American sentiment towards Israel's conduct in Gaza.

According to Gallup, support for Israel's actions in Gaza has plummeted from 50 percent in November to just 36 percent in March. The survey reflects a growing disapproval of Israel's campaign, with 55 percent of Americans now opposing it.

Azikiwe emphasized the increasing awareness among Americans regarding the severity of Israel's actions in Gaza, which he described as genocidal. He noted a surge in solidarity movements and protests across the country condemning the violence.

The conflict, initiated by Israel on October 7, 2023, following a Hamas operation, has resulted in a staggering loss of Palestinian lives, with over 32,000 deaths and more than 75,000 injuries reported. The blockade imposed by Israel has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, depriving its inhabitants of essential resources.

Despite mounting criticism, the Biden administration has recently approved significant arms transfers to Israel, including bombs and fighter jets, as reported by The Washington Post. This move has sparked further debate and condemnation, with critics denouncing Biden's reluctance to halt arms shipments to Israel.

The escalation of violence in Gaza and the erosion of support for Israel among Americans underscore the complexities and challenges facing the Biden administration in navigating the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
