Iraqi State Administration Coalition Backs Prime Minister's Visit to U.S., Aims to Strengthen Ties

The State Administration Coalition in Iraq has declared its full support for Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's upcoming visit to the United States, where he is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden.

Sudani convened the coalition's meeting at the government palace, attended by political leaders representing Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish factions. Notably, the meeting also included a prominent leader of armed factions, Abu Alaa al-Walae, indicating the ongoing truce between the government and these groups.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around various issues pertaining to Iraq's relations with the U.S., which have been marked by turbulence since the American invasion 21 years ago.

Sudani aims to address internal disputes, enabling him to focus on engagements with the U.S., which seeks to leverage these divisions to maintain influence in Iraq.

According to sources, the meeting featured candid conversations regarding the future of Iraq-U.S. relations and cooperation within the U.S.-led anti-ISIS coalition.

The coalition unequivocally endorsed Sudani's visit to the U.S., emphasizing security and the need for Baghdad to assert control over all aspects of the country's affairs.

Sudani hopes for a more successful outcome compared to previous prime ministers' visits to the U.S., which were marked by varying agendas and goals.

In a separate development, Kurdish forces expressed support for the outcomes of Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Nechervan Barzani's recent visit to Baghdad, where he met with Sudani and other senior officials.

Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid emphasized the importance of cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil to resolve disputes, while also stressing the need for parliamentary elections in Kurdistan.

Barzani and his delegation held meetings with members of the pro-Iran Shiite Coordination Framework and the State Administration Coalition, underscoring efforts to foster dialogue and collaboration among Iraqi factions.
