In the past 24 hours, US military bases in Iraq and Syria have faced two separate attacks, marking the first such incidents in nearly three months. These attacks come amidst growing regional anger over Washington's support for Israel's actions in Gaza.
Reuters reported on Monday, citing Iraqi security sources and US officials, that missiles and drones were used in the attacks. An armed drone targeted the Ain al-Asad air base in Iraq's western Anbar province, while five rockets were fired from northern Iraq towards a US base in Rimelan, northeastern Syria.
No casualties or damage extent have been reported from these attacks, and no group has claimed responsibility yet.
These attacks follow numerous strikes by Iraqi resistance forces on US military installations in Iraq and Syria in protest against US support for Israel's actions in Gaza. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has warned the US and Israel against any "foolish" acts targeting Arab countries or the Axis of Resistance.
Israel launched a military campaign against Gaza on October 7 in response to actions by Hamas-led Palestinian resistance groups. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 34,097 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and injured 76,980 others.
The Biden administration has been supplying Israel with weapons and intelligence support and has vetoed multiple UN resolutions calling for an end to the Israeli aggression in Gaza.
