Iran Ready to Share Nuclear Expertise with Neighboring Countries

The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Behrouz Kamalvandi, has expressed Iran's readiness to share its nuclear achievements with other nations, particularly neighboring countries. Speaking at the third Iranian-Arab Dialogue Conference held in Tehran from May 12-14, Kamalvandi emphasized Iran’s extensive experience in the nuclear field.

“Iran has 50 years of history and experience in the nuclear field and has been able to train many scientists and specialists,” Kamalvandi stated. He underscored Iran's willingness to engage in comprehensive cooperation to transfer its nuclear expertise and technology, extending a hand of friendship to all countries.

Kamalvandi highlighted Iran's advancements in uranium enrichment and the production of radiopharmaceuticals, despite facing Western sanctions. He noted that Iran is among the top producers of radiopharmaceuticals and high-quality heavy water. He also pointed out the significant challenges Iran has faced, including the assassination of its scientists and industrial and cyber-sabotage by Israel.

Kamalvandi expressed regret over political issues overshadowing the technical negotiations between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He stressed that discussions should remain within the technical framework of the Safeguards Agreement.

Iran currently operates one nuclear power plant and is constructing two more, with plans to generate 20,000 megawatts (MW) of nuclear electricity over the next 20 years. AEOI head Mohammad Eslami recently announced plans to build additional nuclear plants to enhance national energy security. During a visit to the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Eslami highlighted its significant electricity production over the past years.

Despite facing illegal sanctions and other challenges from Western powers, Iran has made substantial progress in its peaceful nuclear energy program. As a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran has closely cooperated with the IAEA to demonstrate the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities. This commitment was showcased through the 2015 nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed with six world powers. However, the future of the deal remains uncertain following the United States' unilateral withdrawal in May 2018 and the subsequent re-imposition of sanctions on Tehran.
