Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, has been released from a high-security prison in the United Kingdom and is set to return to Australia. This follows his agreement to plead guilty to a single charge of breaching US espionage laws. Assange, 52, will admit to one count of conspiracy to obtain and disclose classified US national defense documents, according to a filing in the US District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands.
Assange was freed from Belmarsh prison on Monday and flown out of the UK. He is scheduled to appear at a court in Saipan, a US Pacific territory, at 9am on Wednesday (23:00 GMT on Tuesday) for sentencing. He will receive a sentence of 62 months, which he has already served.
