IPC Report: Gaza Faces Extreme Hunger and Catastrophic Conditions

An Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report reveals that 96 percent of the Gaza Strip's population currently faces "extreme levels of hunger," with nearly half a million people living in catastrophic conditions.

The Palestinian Red Cross Society (PRCS) has consistently warned about the worsening humanitarian situation caused by Israel's closure and obstruction of border crossings, preventing adequate aid from reaching Gaza.

According to the IPC, over half of Gazan households have resorted to selling their belongings to afford food. A third of the population has turned to collecting trash for sale, while many endure days and nights without food.

On July 2, UN Women reported that at least 557,000 women in Gaza are experiencing food insecurity, with mothers and adult women often prioritizing feeding others over themselves and facing significant challenges in accessing sufficient food supplies.

In collaboration, the FAO and WFP released a report last month indicating that over a million Palestinians might face fatal levels of starvation by mid-July.

Gaza’s media office disclosed that thousands of children aged five and under are at risk of death due to Israel's obstruction of aid into the strip. The media office urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other international justice bodies to prosecute those responsible for the systematic targeting of children, including Israeli and US government officials.

To date, Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed over 38,000 people, including at least 15,000 children, and injured more than 87,000 others.
