Israeli forces have targeted a UN-run school for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, killing more than a dozen and injuring many others.
The UNRWA-run school, which has been housing hundreds of displaced people, was struck on Sunday, as Israel continues to target shelters, schools, and UNRWA facilities across the besieged strip during its tenth-month-long conflict.
The Gaza Government Media Office reported that the attack on the Abu Oreiban School in Nuseirat refugee camp resulted in 15 deaths and 80 injuries.
“This massacre is part of the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the occupation army against our Palestinian people for the tenth month in a row,” the office stated. “We hold the Israeli occupation and the US administration fully responsible for these continued massacres against displaced and civilian populations,” it added.
Earlier, Palestinian medical sources confirmed at least 15 civilians were killed and 70 wounded in the Israeli bombardment of the school.
Hamas: Israel Continues to Escalate Massacres
Hamas, in a statement, condemned the attack, saying, "The criminal Zionist occupation army continues to escalate its massacres against defenseless civilians displaced in shelter centers. The latest is the barbaric bombing of UNRWA’s Abu Oreiban School this afternoon in the Nuseirat refugee camp, resulting in about 15 martyrs and dozens of wounded."
“This is an extension of the ongoing war of extermination against our defenseless civilians and the targeting of women and children, which is a blatant Zionist challenge to the international community, and a disregard for the UN demands that stressed the necessity of stopping the aggression against our people,” the statement continued.
“The attempts of terrorist Netanyahu and his government to subjugate our people through this level of unprecedented crime will fail,” Hamas asserted.
‘Massacres Every Day in Gaza’
Palestinian ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot, commented, “Massacres occur every day everywhere in Gaza. Today, Israel bombed yet another UN school sheltering families in Nuseirat refugee camp, causing dozens of deaths and injuries.”
“This is the result of Israel’s impunity and international inaction,” he tweeted.
Ongoing Conflict
The attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp is part of a broader pattern of violence. Last Saturday, Israel's attack on another UNRWA school in the same camp resulted in the deaths of at least 16 Palestinians seeking shelter, with many more injured and trapped under the rubble.
In overnight strikes in Gaza City, 16 Palestinians were killed. Additionally, more than 70 people were killed and 300 wounded by Israeli air strikes on the al-Mawasi refugee camp near Khan Younis, designated by Israel as a so-called “safe” zone.
Hamas Shooting and Ramming Operation in Ramla
Separately, Hamas has praised a shooting and ramming operation in Ramla, occupied territories, describing it as a response to the “brutal genocide and heinous massacres” committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the campaigns of terror and repression in the occupied West Bank and al-Quds.
The group emphasized that the escalating crimes of the occupying regime against unarmed civilians would only increase Palestinians’ determination to confront and intensify operations against Israel until their rights are fully restored.
Earlier in the day, a vehicle-ramming and shooting operation took place in southern Tel Aviv, injuring four Israelis, including two soldiers. Israeli media reported that the incident in Ramla involved both ramming and shooting targeting regime soldiers. Israeli forces were dispatched to the scene immediately following the attack.
The attack occurred in the context of the ongoing massacres in Gaza, most recently the one in al-Mawasi, which has drawn widespread condemnation.
