Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador to the UN, highlighted his country’s potential to foster cooperation between the UN and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to bolster stability in Afghanistan.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Friday, Iravani affirmed Tehran's readiness to collaborate in promoting peace and security in the region. He emphasized the importance of improving Afghanistan’s economy through joint infrastructure projects.
“Considering the challenges in Afghanistan, we believe that strengthened cooperation between the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has significant capacity to enhance stability and development in Afghanistan,” Iravani stated.
This call for cooperation comes as Iran and several other regional countries continue to advocate for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan under the Taliban.
