Iraqi Prime Minister to Meet Russian President Putin in Moscow for Two-Day Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to host Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani for a two-day meeting in Moscow on October 10 and 11, as reported by Reuters. Al-Sudani is expected to leave Iraq on October 9, engage in talks with Putin on October 10, and participate in business discussions on October 11.

The meeting follows the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein's announcement on September 21 that Al-Sudani intended to travel to Russia before the end of the year. The recent development underscores the increasing ties between Iraq and Russia.

Earlier in the week, Haider Hanoun, Head of the Federal Commission of Integrity (COI) in Iraq, revealed that an agreement had been reached with Russia to collaborate in the fight against corruption and recover funds illicitly transferred overseas.

Al-Sudani hosted Igor Levitin, the assistant to Russian President Putin, and a delegation on October 3 in Baghdad. During the meeting, discussions encompassed bilateral relations between the two nations, the upcoming trip to Moscow by the Iraqi Prime Minister, and initiatives to enhance collaboration in various sectors.
