Iraqi security sources reported a suicide drone attack on a military airbase in Iraq housing US troops. The attack occurred on Saturday, although the Pentagon has stated it could not confirm the incident.
Several armed factions have issued threats to target US interests in Iraq in response to Washington's support for Israel during its recent military campaign in Gaza. The conflict in Gaza resulted in a significant loss of life, with 4,385 Palestinians killed and over 13,000 wounded.
The drone reportedly struck the Ain al-Assad base located in the western province of Anbar. Fortunately, the attack did not cause any casualties or damage, according to a military source who spoke with AFP on condition of anonymity.
A statement posted on Telegram channels typically used by armed groups claimed responsibility for the attack, identifying the group as the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq."
A second Iraqi security source revealed that the attack involved two suicide drones. The first was allegedly intercepted, while the second crashed due to a technical issue.
