Afghan police have discovered a variety of USA arms and ammunition during a series of operations in southern Zabul province, the provincial police office said in a statement on Thursday.
The military equipment has been discovered in and around Zabul's provincial capital of Qalat over the past four months, including seven stocks of AKM assault rifles, 10 pieces of pistols, one rocket-propelled grenade, 52 sets of walkie-talkie and thousands of bullets and projectiles, the statement said.
Police also discovered and confiscated arms and ammunition including 11 Kalashnikovs in Zabul's neighboring Ghazni province on Wednesday.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs as part of efforts to stabilize law and order in the war-ravaged country.
