Iraq sends new batch of humanitarian aid to Gaza

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that it sent a sixth batch of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza as directed by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

The Iraqi Defense Ministry mentioned in a statement that a C130 aircraft loaded with 16 tons of medical aid took off from Mohammed Alaa Airbase in Iraq, heading to El-Arish International Airport in northeastern Egypt, to be delivered to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The humanitarian aid will be delivered under the supervision of the Iraqi Red Crescent to the Egyptian Red Crescent in El-Arish city to be delivered to the Palestinian people.

The statement added that Iraq will continue to send other batches of humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, to Gaza.

The Iraqi government’s spokesperson, Basem Al-Awadi, said last month that Al-Sudani had given orders to send humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza via the Rafah border crossing.

A week-long truce struck by Israel and Hamas allowed for the release of Israeli captives in return for Palestinians detained in Israeli jails, and in late November, Iraq dispatched another shipment of supplies to Gaza.

Israel has renewed its bombardment of Gaza and expanded its offensive to the south of the strip since the ceasefire ended on Friday.

Since the war began on October 7, approximately 15,500 Palestinians have been killed and over 41,000 wounded by Israeli air strikes.
