Iranian Foreign Minister Encourages Peace Between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Emphasizes Regional Cooperation

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed optimism about the potential for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan. Amir-Abdollahian welcomed the agreement between the two nations to address their existing disputes, emphasizing that regional countries possess the capacity to resolve differences and promote stability independently. He cautioned against the involvement of extra-regional powers, emphasizing the importance of utilizing regional cooperation, specifically the 3+3 format involving Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Turkey, and Iran, to ensure a lasting peace in the Caucasus region.

Amir-Abdollahian highlighted Iran's commitment to enhancing relations with neighboring countries, including Armenia, underscoring the need to accelerate the implementation of existing agreements, particularly in economic fields. Prime Minister Pashinyan praised Iran's principled stance on regional developments and called for the expansion of ties. Both sides discussed the importance of preparing the ground for increased trade exchanges and affirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. In a separate meeting with Armenia's Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, Amir-Abdollahian reiterated Iran's support for Armenia's territorial integrity and emphasized the need for regional countries to address their issues independently. Grigoryan expressed Armenia's determination to enhance relations with Iran and acknowledged Tehran's continuous support for Armenia's territorial integrity.
