Journalists Face Unprecedented Danger in Gaza as Death Toll Surpasses 100

As the Israeli regime's genocidal war continues in Gaza, journalists have become primary targets, with the death toll among media professionals surpassing 100 since October 7. The besieged coastal territory has become the most dangerous place for journalists, as they face deliberate attacks aimed at silencing their voices and preventing the exposure of war crimes committed by the Tel Aviv regime.

On Friday, Jabr Abu Hadrous, a local journalist for Al-Quds Today, was killed along with several family members when Israeli warplanes targeted his home in Nusseirat camp. His death brings the grim tally to 106 journalists killed while performing their duties. Colleagues lamented the lack of protection for journalists in Gaza, highlighting that press vests seemed to signal danger rather than provide safety.

Officials in Gaza fear that the actual number of journalists killed could be higher, as many remain missing and possibly trapped under rubble. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has expressed unprecedented concern over the targeting of journalists and their families during the current Israeli aggression, labeling the violence as unparalleled in the group's history.

Journalists in Gaza accuse the Israeli regime of deliberately aiming to silence them, viewing the attacks as an attempt to hinder the exposure of the brutality taking place. Reporters Without Borders noted that journalists like Hassouna Sleem and Sary Mansour received death threats online 24 hours before being killed during an Israeli assault on the Bureij refugee camp. The deliberate targeting of media personnel, including those reporting near the Lebanese border, emphasizes the dangerous conditions faced by journalists in Gaza.

Reporters Without Borders has issued a stark warning that "journalism is in the process of being eradicated in the Gaza Strip" due to Israel's refusal to protect media personnel. The statement emphasizes the alarming rate at which journalists are being killed, leaving them with no safe refuge and no means of leaving the embattled territory. The international community remains called upon to address the growing threat to press freedom in Gaza.
