Democratic Senators Warren and Sanders Criticize Unconditional US Military Aid to Israel

In a noteworthy stance, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren has called for an end to the United States' unconditional support for Israel, citing the regime's "appalling disregard for Palestinian lives" in Gaza. Senator Warren criticized the Biden administration for providing military aid to Israel without conditions, despite the Israeli military's involvement in the deaths of over 22,600 individuals, with 70% being children and women, since October 7.

Expressing concern, Warren stated, "When it comes to military aid to Israel, the US cannot write a blank check for a right-wing government that's demonstrated an appalling disregard for Palestinian lives." She urged the US to utilize all available tools to condition aid and push the involved parties toward a lasting peace.

Senator Warren's call follows a similar demand from Senator Bernie Sanders, who labeled Israel's response to Hamas' Operation Al-Aqsa Storm as "grossly disproportionate, immoral, and in violation of international law." Sanders emphasized that the Biden administration must no longer be complicit in the destruction of innocent lives in Gaza.

On Tuesday, Sanders urged Congress to reject the proposed $10 billion in unconditional military aid for Israel, condemning what he termed Netanyahu's "illegal, immoral, brutal, and grossly disproportionate war" against the Palestinian people. He emphasized that the US should cease funding Israel's military operations, conducted with US weaponry, and highlighted the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing conflict.

Despite mounting pressure to reconsider the US stance on Israel, President Biden has maintained unwavering support for Prime Minister Netanyahu. The Biden administration has supplied Israel with over 10,000 tons of military equipment since the commencement of the conflict in Gaza. The senators' calls signal a growing dissatisfaction within the Democratic Party regarding the unconditional backing of Israel in the face of the ongoing crisis.
