US Official Downplays Risk of War with Iran Despite Deadly Drone Attack

A senior US official has emphasized that the United States is not seeking war with Iran following a drone attack on a US military outpost in Jordan, which resulted in the deaths of three American servicemen.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby addressed the incident on Monday, stating that the US would respond significantly to the attack on the Tower 22 barracks near Jordan's border with Syria, attributing it to militants with ties to Iran. Iran has denied involvement in the attack.

However, Kirby underscored that any response would not escalate into a full-scale war with Iran, despite Washington's accusations of Iran supporting anti-US groups in the region.

"We don't seek a war with Iran. We're not looking for a wider conflict in the Middle East," Kirby clarified in an interview with CNN.

Kirby reiterated the US's objective of ending recurrent attacks on its military personnel in the region, emphasizing a desire for stability, security, and prosperity in the Middle East.

These statements come amidst ongoing attacks by resistance groups in various Arab countries targeting US and Israeli interests, as part of efforts to end Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza.

Notably, Iraqi resistance factions have carried out over 150 attacks on US positions in Iraq and Syria since October, coinciding with the Israeli offensive in Gaza. Additionally, Yemen's Ansarullah movement has targeted US ships in the Red Sea following US-led military operations against Yemen aimed at halting attacks on Israeli-linked vessels in the region.

Regional resistance groups have suggested that halting attacks on the US and its allies could be contingent upon Israel agreeing to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
