US Quietly Authorizes Over 100 Weapons Sales to Israel During Gaza Conflict

A recent report reveals that the United States has covertly approved more than 100 separate weapons sales to Israel since the onset of the Gaza war in early October, despite growing concerns over the occupying regime's aggressive campaign against the besieged territory.

According to the Washington Post, US officials disclosed in a classified briefing to members of Congress that the authorized sales encompass thousands of precision-guided munitions, small diameter bombs, bunker busters, small arms, and other lethal aid.

While only two weapons sales authorized by President Joe Biden had been publicly announced, the latest revelation of triple-digit figures has not been previously disclosed.

The Biden administration's bypassing of Congress to greenlight $106 million in tank ammunition sales and $147.5 million in components for 155 mm shells has raised eyebrows. However, the remaining 100 weapons transfers were conducted discreetly, avoiding public scrutiny due to individual dollar thresholds that mandate executive notification to Congress.

Jeremy Konyndyk, a former senior Biden administration official, underscored the extraordinary volume of sales, suggesting that Israel's campaign would not be sustainable without robust US support.

Josh Paul, a former State Department official, criticized the lack of transparency in the arms transfer process, particularly given the substantial financial backing provided by US taxpayer funds to Israel annually.

Since the commencement of the Gaza conflict on October 7, triggered by Palestinian resistance groups' retaliatory actions against Israel, the US has supplied the Tel Aviv regime with over 10,000 tons of military equipment. Additionally, the US has repeatedly vetoed UN Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The relentless Israeli military offensive in Gaza has resulted in a devastating toll, with over 30,700 casualties, predominantly women and children, underscoring the urgency for accountability and transparency in US-Israeli relations.
