Venezuela Criticizes U.S. Sanctions as Neocolonialism

Venezuela's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has stated that sanctions, along with war, are the central axis of U.S. foreign policy. Speaking at the Caribbean Regional Seminar of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization in Caracas, Rodriguez highlighted the United States' unilateral coercive actions aimed at pressuring Venezuela to alter its path of independence and self-determination.

"Sanctions are, along with war, the central axis of the foreign policy of the United States," Rodriguez declared. She emphasized that over 1,000 unilateral coercive measures, incorrectly termed 'sanctions,' have been used to blackmail Venezuela into changing its course of independence and self-determination. "This sanctions system is a new form of colonialism that seeks to seize our resources," she added.

Rodriguez presented graphs illustrating the economic losses inflicted by the sanctions from 2000 to 2022, spanning the administrations of George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. She noted that these measures aim to obstruct the development and well-being proposed by nations refusing to submit to hegemonic systems.

Highlighting the broader impact, Rodriguez stated, "Currently, 28 percent of the world's population lives in 30 countries sanctioned by the United States. Its sanctions cover 72 percent of the planet's territory."

On Monday, a massive march led by Rodriguez and Miranda Governor Hector Rodriguez took place in Petare, Miranda state, demonstrating support for President Nicolas Maduro and condemning U.S. sanctions. Rodriguez urged President Biden to lift the blockade and affirmed that President Maduro will never bow to U.S. pressure, standing firm for the respect of the Venezuelan people.

Reports from Venezuela's anti-sanctions government observatory indicate that 930 sanctions have been imposed against the country.
