Pakistan Supports Iran's Call for OIC Meeting Following Haniyeh Assassination

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has voiced full support for Iran’s call for an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in response to the assassination of senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran by Israel. Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani requested the emergency meeting and collective condemnation from regional states. Haniyeh, head of the Hamas political bureau, was in Tehran for the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian. During a phone conversation with Bagheri Kani on Saturday, Dar stated that Pakistan would actively participate in this important meeting. The Pakistani Foreign Office issued a press release confirming this commitment.

Dar added that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had condemned Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza and the assassination of Haniyeh in the strongest possible terms. Bagheri Kani invited Dar to the OIC extraordinary meeting at the foreign ministers level, which will convene soon to address Haniyeh’s assassination. The Pakistani National Assembly unanimously condemned the act, highlighting its violation of international law and diplomatic norms.

In a statement on Saturday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) claimed that the assassination of Haniyeh was orchestrated by Israel and supported by the US administration. The IRGC detailed that the attack involved a short-range projectile with a warhead weighing approximately seven kilograms, resulting in a massive explosion.
