According to a Reuters report, U.S. State Department officials have documented nearly 500 incidents of potential civilian harm from U.S.-supplied weapons used by Israel in Gaza since October 7, 2023. Despite evidence indicating possible violations of international humanitarian law, no steps have been taken to address these cases, as revealed by sources within the State Department.
The Biden administration’s “Civilian Harm Incident Response Guidance” was established to monitor misuse of U.S. arms globally, but none of the Gaza cases have reached the stage where action is taken. While U.S. officials publicly committed to reviewing international law violations, the State Department has refrained from holding Israel accountable. Critics argue that Washington's deference to Israel's military actions and its failure to investigate deeply compromises U.S. claims of promoting human rights, especially when taxpayer-funded weapons are involved.
