Regional Powers Stress Concern for Afghanistan's Security and Stability

A senior Iranian official, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, emphasized the shared concern among regional countries for the security, stability, and welfare of the Afghan people. This statement came following a meeting with counterparts from Russia, China, and Pakistan in Doha, Qatar. Kazemi Qomi highlighted the effective role of the regional contact committee in addressing Afghanistan's security challenges. The discussions occurred within the framework of a two-day UN-convened meeting of Special Envoys on Afghanistan, focusing on Resolution 2679, which underscores commitments to Afghanistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Despite Taliban leaders' absence from the meeting, Kazemi Qomi reiterated Tehran's commitment to defending Afghan citizens and emphasized the historical cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan in various domains. Furthermore, he urged the European Union not to politicize humanitarian aid in its regional engagements, during talks with the EU's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson.
